The Roman emperor Diocletian came to the Split peninsula in the 3rd century to enjoy the benefits of the Mediterranean climate and nature in his old days. Diocletian built his imperial residence along the coast itself, which offers an excellent view of the neighboring islands as well as the Marjan forest.
